Recently, in the production workshop of the Risheng Cooperative in Liangdong Town, Lianjiang City, workers were skillfully sorting, weighing, and packaging a batch of fresh lychees. After passing quarantine by officers at Lianjiang Customs under Zhanjiang Customs, this 665-kilogram batch of lychees is set for its first-time export to Hungary via air freight, heralding a breakthrough in the export of Zhanjiang's specialty agricultural and food products to countries collaborating on the Belt and Road.
It is noted that Hungary, as a member of the European Union (EU), enforces stringent quarantine requirements for imported fruits. To ensure compliance with foreign access standards, Lianjiang Customs has enhanced technical support through "one-on-one" consultations with farmers, guiding them in strict management of agricultural chemical usage, pest control, and comprehensive quality safety controls, thereby improving lychee quality from the source. Meanwhile, the customs consistently enhances research on technical trade measures and market risk assessments, informing enterprises about the policies, regulations, and quarantine standards of Belt and Road partner countries. This guides businesses in actively exploring diversified export markets.
To address the characteristics of exported lychees, such as short shelf life and storage difficulty, the customs has continuously improved quarantine inspection processes by establishing a "Green Channel" for fresh agricultural product inspections, implementing a "7×24" appointment-based customs clearance system, and utilizing facilitation measures such as appointment-based cold treatment quarantine procedures and quarantine certificate "cloud issuance". These enhancements simplify certificate application processes, reduce clearance times, and enable Zhanjiang lychees "take the lead with fresh quality" in the international market.
According to statistics, as of June 16, Lianjiang Customs has supervised the export of 1,869.6 tons of specialty fruits, including lychees and longans, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 42%. Newly partnering with four countries, including Russia and the Philippines, within the Belt and Road Initiative, the export "circle of friends" continues to expand.
"We will continue to leverage Zhanjiang's distinctive agricultural and food industry resources and geographical advantages to deepen the implementation of the General Administration of Customs' Three-Year Special Action Plan to Support the Export of Agricultural Food Products, enabling more unique agricultural and food products to be distributed worldwide along the Belt and Road Initiative", stated Mo Jianyong, Deputy Director of Lianjiang Customs, which operates under Zhanjiang Customs.
