Ningbo's cross-border e-commerce sector saw stellar results during the 618 shopping festival, racking up over 13.36 million orders and sales worth 4.59 billion yuan ($630 million).

Running from May 16 to June 20, this year's campaign was the longest on record, strategically coninciding with several key consumer events — May 20 (the local version of Valentine's Day), Children's Day and the Dragon Boat Festival.

Top-performing products included health supplements, beauty items, alcohol-free beverages, baby care products and gaming consoles.

"With a longer promotional period, we benefited from a broader sales window," said Chen Junhan, head of Ningbo Lidegou E-commerce Co Ltd.

To ensure seamless delivery, Ningbo Customs implemented early planning and high-efficiency clearance measures. A dedicated green channel enabled same-day inspections, releases and stocking of imported goods in bonded zones, shortening the time it took to get products onto the shelves.

In anticipation of three expected peak waves of consumption, Ningbo Customs fine-tuned its emergency response system for cross-border clearances — ensuring round-the-clock staffing at checkpoints and prioritizing tasks, such as document reviews and cargo checks. The efforts were said to have greatly enhanced its logistics efficiency and boosted the overall consumer shopping experience.

The momentum was further fueled by international collaboration. The 7th China-CEEC Dialogue on Customs, Inspection and Quarantine held in Ningbo last month boosted visibility for Central and Eastern European products, including a popular rose essence supplement, highlighting the growing diversity in imported offerings.
