Fujian's Exports to European Union Break 100-Billion-Yuan Barrier in H1 2025

According to the statistics released by Xiamen Customs, the total value of imports and exports traded in East China's Fujian province with the European Union hit 126.83 billion yuan in the first half of 2025, representing a 7.6 percent year-on-year increase and setting a record for the period. To be more specific, exports to the EU from Fujian reached 108.35 billion yuan, a 9.1 percent increase year-on-year, witnessing the first time to exceed the 100-billion-yuan threshold.

Germany, the Netherlands and Spain were the top three trading partners of Fujian province with the EU in the first six months in terms of trade volume. Together, they accounted for 56.1 percent of total trade, with Germany being the biggest market worth 49.4 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 28.6 percent, representing 38.9 percent of the province's total trade with the EU. In terms of growth, Fujian saw an increase in trade with 16 EU member states such as Cyprus, Finland and Hungary in the first half of the year, with exports and imports to Cyprus skyrocketing by 13.4 times.

Private enterprises continued to play a leading role in Fujian's import and export dealings with the EU. In the period, they handled 89.63-billion-yuan worth of trade with the EU, a year-on-year increase of 14.7 percent, accounting for 70.7 percent of the total. In comparison, foreign-invested and state-owned enterprises contributed 26.8 billion yuan and 10.33 billion yuan respectively.

Exports, as the main driver, were continuously boosting trade between Fujian and Europe in a stable manner. In the first half of the year, exports of machinery and electronic products to the EU from Fujian accounted for 66.27 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 16 percent, representing 61.2 percent of the total exports to the EU and delivering 9.2 percentage points of growth momentum, with notable performance in exports of lithium-ion batteries, ships and electric automobiles, surging by 26.4 percent, 85.2 percent, and 181.8 percent, respectively, during the same period. Meanwhile, agricultural exports also surged 56.1percent to 2.95 billion yuan.

Imports continued to be led by machinery and electronic products as advanced EU-manufactured equipment increasingly penetrated Fujian's industrial facilities, residential applications and healthcare institutions. The province's imports of EU machinery and electronic products grew 2.8 percent to 8.53 billion yuan in H1, comprising 46.2 percent of total imports. Notably, the aircraft parts imports jump 82.1 percent to 1.37 billion yuan, while pulp imports surging 94.9 percent year-on-year to 2.18 billion yuan during the period.
