News from China Inspection and Quarantine Times: Recently, a China-Europe Railway Express loaded with mechanical components, electrical equipment, and general merchandise departed from Alashankou Station bound for Malaszewicze, Poland, marking the milestone of over 4,000 China-Europe (Central Asia) freight trains passing through Alashankou Railway Port this year.
Since 2024, the Xinjiang Railway Department has commissioned an additional container handling line at Alashankou Station while modernizing two existing ones. The station now boasts a daily container transshipment capacity of 2,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), with train operation efficiency improved by 30%. Currently, Alashankou Railway Port handles over 21 freight trains daily on average, peaking at 30 trains during busy periods, maintaining smooth and well-organized transportation operations.
"To address the concentrated arrival of imported bulk cargo, we converted one operation line into a dedicated bulk handling line in early July," explained Dai Cunwu, Assistant Engineer at the Cargo Loading Workshop of Alashankou Station under China Railway Urumqi Group. "This upgrade increases daily handling capacity by 7,700 tons, ensuring swift cargo operations."
To facilitate the smooth customs clearance of China-Europe (Central Asia) freight trains, Alashankou Customs under Urumqi Customs has optimized operational procedures, streamlined clearance formalities, and introduced a "one-stop" customs clearance service. The Customs established dedicated counters for China-Europe (Central Asia) trains and launched a "Green Channel", leveraging tripartite data connectivity among railway ports, manifest management systems, and the "Single Window" for international trade to enhance visualized and intelligent supervision capabilities. Meanwhile, the continuous implementation of facilitation measures such as "Railway Fast Clearance" and manifest consolidation ensures "immediate processing, inspection, and release" of trains, significantly improving operational supervision efficiency.
"We enhance information sharing and electronic data exchange with local customs, promptly address irregularities, ensure seamless coordination across all customs clearance procedures for freight trains, and implement comprehensive supervision throughout the cargo transportation process to facilitate efficient and swift customs clearance for China-Europe (Central Asia) freight trains," stated a representative from the First Comprehensive Business Division of Alashankou Customs.
To date, 124 China-Europe (Central Asia) freight train routes have operated through Alashankou Railway Port, connecting 21 countries such as Germany and Poland, and transporting over 200 categories of goods. (Correspondent: Pan Jiayang)
