On July 2, the China-EU Consumer Product Safety Training and Exchange Event took place in Yiwu, jointly organized by the Research Center of GACC for International Inspection and Quarantine Standards and Technical Regulations and the Safe Non-food Consumer Products in the EU & China (SPEAC) Project, with support from Hangzhou Customs, the Yiwu Market Development Committee, and other organizations. Over 100 representatives from Yiwu-based companies exporting goods to Europe, industry associations, and professionals in certification and standards research participated in the on-site exchange activities.
The event, themed 'New Regulatory Trends in the Digital Era: Compliance Strategies for E-commerce, Smart Products, and Textiles in the Sino-European Market,' addressed key topics such as the quality and safety of smart products and textiles, the latest EU product safety regulations, corporate compliance strategies, and cross-border e-commerce. Experts from the SPEAC project and the Hangzhou Customs Technology Center provided on-site training on EU product regulations and e-commerce policies, addressing queries from participating companies.
The China-EU Consumer Product Safety Training is a key initiative to implement the Joint Statement from the 8th China-US-EU Trilateral Summit on Consumer Product Safety. The Yiwu session marks the fifth edition of this training and exchange program, as well as the first such event in Zhejiang Province this year. It aims to elevate the quality and safety awareness of export enterprises, improve product quality, and ensure compliance with EU import standards and regulatory requirements. "This training enhances our understanding of consumer product safety and offers companies a platform to engage with experts," said Li Bo, Business Manager of Zhejiang Jinghui Cosmetics Co., Ltd. The company exports approximately USD 20 million worth of goods to Europe annually, representing 35% of its total sales. Hosting the event locally provided convenient access to specialized knowledge, delivering targeted support for business expansion in the European market.
According to reports, in recent years, Hangzhou Customs has consistently enhanced quality and safety management for import and export commodities. Through proactive collection of challenges faced by enterprises during export operations, in-depth study and assessment of technical trade measures for cross-border e-commerce, as well as organizing training sessions to guide enterprises in optimizing production processes, the Hangzhou Customs assists enterprises in risk mitigation and promotes the export of intelligent products along with textile and apparel goods within the customs jurisdiction.
