Customs statistics show that the total value of food trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEE) was RMB 600 million in July 2024, a year-on-year decrease of 40.2% over the same period last year (the same below). Among them, food exported to CEE accounted for RMB 400 million, an increase of 25.7%; Food imported from CEE reached RMB 200 million, a decrease of 71.4%.
The main features of food trade between China and CEE in July 2024 are as follows:
(I) Edible aquatic products, meat, vegetables and edible mushrooms were the main exported products.
In July 2024, China exported RMB 400 million of foods to CEE, an increase of 25.7%, accounting for 0.6% of the gross value of exports to CEE from China in the same month. Among them, the export of edible aquatic products was RMB 89.643 million, with an increase of 45.1%; the export of meat was RMB 50.476 million, with an increase of 54%; the export of vegetables and edible mushrooms was RMB 43.064 million, with an increase of 29.1%.
(II) Edible vegetable oil, dairy products, and sunflower seeds were the main imported products.
In July 2024, China imported RMB 200 million of foods from CEE, a decrease of 71.4%, accounting for 0.9% of the gross import value from CEE to China in the same month. Among them, the value of imported edible vegetable oil was RMB 54.628 million, an increase of 44.9%; the value of imported dairy products was RMB 49.499 million, a decrease of 39.2%; and the value of imported sunflower seeds was RMB 26.827 million, a decrease of 38.6%.
(III) Poland, Bulgaria, and Romania were the top three food trading partners.
In July 2024, China's imports and exports of food from and to Poland, Bulgaria, and Romania were RMB 240 million, RMB 70.048 million, and RMB 69.073 million respectively, an increase of 13.7%, a decrease of 88.2%, and an increase of 99.4% respectively, accounting for 40.2%, 11.7%, and 11.5% respectively of China's gross import-export value of food from and to CEE over the same period.
