Briefing on Agricultural Trade between China and CEECs in 2021

According to Customs statistics, the agricultural trade volume between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEECs) was RMB10.36 billion in 2021, up 13.9% year-on-year (similarly hereinafter). Of these, the export of agricultural products to CEECs amounted to RMB5.3 billion, an increase of 1.2%; the import of agricultural products from CEECs reached RMB5.06 billion, up 31.3%. 


The main features are as follows:


1. Edible aquatic products, chemically modified fats and oils, vegetables and edible mushrooms were the main exported products.


In 2021, China exported RMB5.3 billion of agricultural products to CEECs, an increase of 1.2%, accounting for 0.8% of the total exports from China to CEECs over the same period. Of these, edible aquatic products reached RMB820 million, down 5%; chemically modified fats and oils amounted to RMB450 million, up 191.2%; vegetables and edible mushrooms totaled RMB310 million, down 4.1%.


2. Dairy products, rapeseed oil and oil residue cake of sunflower seeds were the main imported products.


In 2021, China imported RMB5.06 billion of agricultural products from CEECs, which increased by 31.3%, accounting for 2.3% of the gross import value from CEECs to China over the same period. Of these, dairy products reached RMB1.4 billion, an increase of 18.8%; Rapeseed oil amounted to MB 710 million, up 97.8 times; The oil residue cake of sunflower seeds amounted to RMB640 million, which increased by 629.6%.


3. Poland, Bulgaria and Romania were the top three trading partners.


In 2021, China's imports and exports of agricultural products from and to Poland, Bulgaria and Romania were RMB3.71 billion, RMB1.66 billion and RMB1.08 billion respectively, an increase of 1.2%, 35.8% and 33.2% respectively, accounting for 35.8%, 16% and 10.4% of China's gross import-export value of agricultural products from and to CEECs over the same period.
