Briefing on Bilateral Trade between China and CEECs in the First Half of 2022

According to Customs statistics, the total value of bilateral trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEECs) was RMB445.06 billion in the first half of 2022, with a year-on-year increase (similarly hereinafter) of 9.2%. including the value of exports to CEECs reached RMB340.64 billion with an increase of 15.4% and the value of imports from CEECs reached RMB104.42 billion with a decrease of 7.1%.


The main features of bilateral trade between China and CEECs in the first half of 2022 are as follows:


1. Mechanical and electrical products and labor-intensive products  dominated the exports.


In the first half of 2022, China exported RMB231.17 billion of mechanical and electrical products to CEECs, an increase of 9.5%, accounting for 67.9% of the gross export value (the same below) from China to CEECs over the same period. Among them, the value of electrical equipments reached RMB27.92 billion, an increase of 23.3%; the value of automatic data processing equipment components reached RMB25.32 billion, a decrease of 4.2%. Over the same period, the export of labor-intensive products amounted to RMB57.72 billion, an increase of 25.7%, accounting for 16.9%. Among them, the value of garments and clothing accessories reached RMB18.94 billion, an increase of 42.5%; The value of textile yarn, fabrics and articles thereof reached RMB11.16 billion, an increase of 19.7%. In addition, the value of exported agricultural products reached RMB3.84 billion, an increase of 72%; the value of export of foods reached RMB1.87 billion, an increase of 21%.


2. Mechanical and electrical products, metal mines and ores, copper materials dominated the imports.


In the first half of 2022, China imported RMB74.18 billion of mechanical and electrical products from CEECs, a decrease of 8.9%, accounting for 71% of the gross value of imports from CEECs to China (the same below) over the same period. Among them, the value of passenger cars reached RMB21.63 billion, flat with the same period last year; the value of auto parts and accessories reached RMB14.28 billion, a decrease of 21.8%. Over the same period, the value of imported metal mines and ores reached RMB5.05 billion, an increase of 119.2%; the value of unwrought copper and copper material reached RMB4.69 billion, a decrease of 32.7%. In addition, the value of imported agricultural products reached RMB2.21 billion, a decrease of 7.9%; the value of imported food reached RMB1.53 billion, a decrease of 16.1%.


3. Poland, Czech and Hungary were the top three trading partners.


In the first half of 2022, the value of China's imports from and exports to Poland, Czech and Hungary reached RMB135.74 billion, RMB71.56 billion and RMB47.9 billion respectively, with an increase of 7.4%, an increase of 7.3% and a decrease of 2.9%, accounting for 30.5%, 16.1% and 10.8% of China's gross import-export value from and to CEECs over the same period, respectively.
