Customs statistics show that the total value of food trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEE) was RMB 1.72 billion in Q1 2024, a decrease of 0.4% over the same period last year (the same below). Among them, food exported to CEE accounted for RMB 1.15 billion, an increase of 19.5%; food imported from CEE reached RMB 570 million, a decrease of 25.4%.
The main features of food trade between China and CEE in Q1 2024 are as follows:
(I) Edible aquatic products, vegetables, edible mushrooms and meat were the main exported products.
In Q1 2024, China's exports of food to CEE reached RMB 1.15 billion, an increase of 19.5%, accounting for 0.6% of China's total exports to CEE during the same period. Among them, the value of edible aquatic products was RMB 200 million, an increase of 19.1%; the value of vegetables and edible mushrooms was RMB 130 million, an increase of 34.8%; the value of meat was RMB 83.958 million, an increase of 34%.
(II) Dairy products, edible vegetable oil, and corn were the main imported products.
In the first quarter of 2024, China's imports of food from CEE reached RMB 570 million, a decrease of 25.4%, accounting for 1.2% of China's total imports from CEE during the same period. Among them, the value of dairy products was RMB 130 million, a decrease of 36.9%; that of edible vegetable oil was RMB 88.578 million, an increase of 745.4%; and that of corn was RMB 80.79 million, a decrease of 66.8%.
(III) Poland, Bulgaria, and Greece were the top three food trading partners.
In Q1 2024, the value of China's food imported from and exported to Poland, Bulgaria and Greece reached RMB 590 million, RMB 300 million and RMB 210 million respectively, with a decrease of 12.5%, 23.4% and an increase of 12.5% respectively, accounting for 34.4%, 17.2% and 12.1% of the total value of China's food imported from and exported to CEE in the same period.
