China Inspection and Quarantine Times—Recently, the EU officially approved the registration recommended by Jiyuan Yangguang Food Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Yangguang Food"), making it Henan Province's first export rabbit meat food production enterprise to obtain official EU approval. It is also the only meat slaughtering enterprise in Henan Province to obtain EU registration.
"Now, of the 10,000 meat rabbits we slaughter every day, about half are indirectly exported to overseas markets after slaughtering," Duan Longyao, general manager of Yangguang Food, said, "Based on existing customer estimates, it is expected that 1,000 to 1,500 tons of rabbit meat products will be exported annually, with a value of approximately RMB 38 million."
The approval of the EU registration means that Henan's rabbit meat products can be directly exported to all EU member states.
As an enterprise encompassing the entire meat rabbit industry chain—including superior breed development, feed production, meat rabbit slaughtering, food processing, organic fertilizer production, and biological research—Yangguang Food had effectively met EU standards across various metrics such as feed quality, breeding, and raising. However, progress was hindered by the absence of a slaughtering and processing facility that complies with EU standards.
To assist enterprises in successfully obtaining EU registration certification, Jiyuan Customs, under Zhengzhou Customs, guides businesses in controlling breeding water, feed, and vaccines from the outset. Additionally, it implements sanitary controls throughout the slaughtering and processing stages and provides comprehensive support for the planning, construction, software and hardware setup, and certification filings of slaughtering workshops necessary for export.
"Obtaining the EU market access 'Green Card' is a crucial step in completing the closed-loop rabbit industry chain," said Duan Longyao.
In recent years, Jiyuan Customs has concentrated on critical preliminary steps such as registering enterprises that export animal and plant products, registering export food enterprises, and registering farms that supply raw materials for exported food products. By fostering rural specialty industries to obtain various export certifications as a key strategy, it has successively assisted Henan Lvyin Seed Industry Co. with the independent export of vegetable seeds, Jintian Seedlings and Flower Seedlings in Jiyuan City with independent exports, and Yili Dairy Company in Jiyuan with its first-time export of lactic acid bacteria products. Next, the customs office will continue to offer more professional and comprehensive services to enterprises, enhance guidance for filing special qualifications, and increase external endorsements, thereby promoting a greater number of local specialty products to expand internationally.
