According to Customs statistics, the total value of foods trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEECs) was RMB700 million in May 2022, a year-on-year decrease of 7.8% over the same period last year (the same below). Among them, food exported to CEECs accounted for RMB400 million, an increase of 38.9%; Food imported from CEECs reached RMB300 million, a decrease of 35.8%.
The main features are as follows:
1. Aquatic food, Chinese spirits, vegetables and edible mushrooms were the main exported products.
In May 2022, China exported RMB400 million of foods to CEECs, an increase of 38.9%, accounting for 0.7% of the gross value of exports to CEECs from China in the same month. Among them, the export of aquatic food was RMB73.987 million, down 16.4%; the export of Chinese spirits was RMB61.631 million, no export in the same period of last year; the export of vegetables and edible mushrooms was RMB29.057 million, up 86.3%.
2. Dairy products, corn, liquor and beverages were the main imported products.
In May 2022, China imported RMB300 million of foods from CEECs, down 35.8%, accounting for 1.6% of the gross import value from CEECs to China in the same month. Among them, the import of dairy products was RMB110 million, down 30.9%; the import of corn was RMB85.363 million, no import in the same period of last year; the import of liquor and beverages was RMB26.581 million, down 26.1%.
3. Poland, Bulgaria and Greece were the top three food trading partners.
In May 2022, China's imports from and exports to Poland, Bulgaria, and Greece amounted to RMB250 million, RMB120 million, and RMB73.547 million respectively, with a decrease of 17.7%, an increase of 354.8% and 62.4% respectively. They respectively account for 35.9%, 17.2% and 10.5% of the gross value of foods imported from and exported to CEECs in the same month.
