On April 22, Ningbo Customs released the "report card" summarizing Ningbo's trade with Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries. In the first quarter of this year, the total import and export volume between Ningbo and Central and Eastern European countries reached RMB 15.29 billion, representing a 19.8% increase compared to the same period last year (hereinafter referred to as the same period). Of this total, the export value reached RMB 11.95 billion, marking a 25.8% increase, while the import value stood at RMB 3.34 billion, reflecting a 2.3% growth.
Mechanical and electrical (M&E) products remain the primary commodities exported from Ningbo to CEE. In the first quarter of this year, Ningbo exported M&E products worth RMB 7.88 billion to CEE countries, achieving a year-on-year increase of 22.6%. Within the category of M&E products, household appliances, electrical equipment, and auto parts rank as the top three exported categories.
Wood and its derivatives are key commodities imported by Ningbo from CEE countries. CEE countries are abundant in forest resources and possess a relatively complete timber industry chain. The natural advantages of timber resources complement China's development needs effectively.
In the first quarter of this year, Ningbo imported wood and wood products worth RMB 120 million from CEE countries, marking a year-on-year increase of 57.6%.
Leveraging the "world's largest port," Ningbo Customs has supported Chinese enterprises in "tapping into" the CEE market through initiatives such as the "Green Channel for Customs Clearance of CEEC Goods" and the "One-stop Service for Imports from CEEC."
In 2021, Ningbo Customs undertook the construction of China's only China-CEEC Customs Information Center.
Over the past four years, the Center has provided enterprises with substantial resources, collecting and releasing 21,400 pieces of bilingual (Chinese and English) information on customs policies. It has also published 230 trade monitoring and analysis reports on China-CEEC relations and 121 issues of the China-CEEC Trade Development Index. The website has seen over 3.4 million visits.
This year marks the 13th anniversary of the establishment of the cooperation mechanism between China and CEEC. According to customs statistics, the import and export trade volume between Ningbo and CEEC surged from RMB 12.51 billion in 2012 to RMB 56.13 billion in 2024, achieving a remarkable and substantial growth in trade.
During the 4th China-CEEC Expo, the China-CEEC Customs Inspection and Quarantine Cooperation Dialogue will be held concurrently. Next month, representatives from governments and enterprises across CEE will convene in Ningbo, eagerly anticipating more sparks of collaboration between the two sides. (Ding Xiaojin, Yu Chen)
