Customs statistics show that the total value of the agricultural product trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEE) was RMB 16.49 billion in 2023, with an increase of 26.9% over 2022 (the same below). Among them, the export of agricultural products to CEE reached RMB 9.7 billion, with an increase of 15.2%; the import of agricultural products from CEE reached RMB 6.79 billion, with an increase of 48.5%.
The main features of the agricultural product trade between China and CEE in 2023 are as follows:
(I) E-cigarette cartridges (nicotine-containing), edible aquatic products and canned food were the main exported products.
In 2023, China exported RMB 9.7 billion of agricultural products to CEE, with an increase of 15.2%, accounting for 1.3% of the gross export value from China to CEE over the same period. Among them, the export of E-cigarette cartridges (nicotine-containing) reached RMB 2.89 billion, with an increase of 78.9%; the export of edible aquatic products reached RMB 770 million, with a decrease of 4.8%; the export of canned food reached RMB 470 million, with an increase of 55.1%.
(II) Oil cake of sunflower seeds, corn and dairy products were the main imported products.
In 2023, China imported RMB 6.79 billion of agricultural products from CEE, with an increase of 48.5%, accounting for 3.2% of the gross import value from CEE to China over the same period. Among them, the value of oil cake of sunflower seeds reached RMB 1.75 billion, with an increase of 30.1%; the value of corn reached RMB 1.71 billion, with an increase of 434.5%; the value of dairy products reached RMB 880 million, with a decrease of 17.1%.
(III) Bulgaria, Poland and Romania were the top three agricultural products trading partners.
In 2023, China's imports and exports of agricultural products from and to Bulgaria, Poland and Romania were RMB 5.08 billion, RMB 5.01 billion and RMB 1.28 billion respectively, with an increase of 85.9%, 19.5% and a decrease of 35.2% respectively, accounting for 30.8%, 30.4% and 7.8% of China's gross import-export value of agricultural products from and to CEE over the same period.
