Customs statistics show that the total value of agricultural products between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEE) was RMB 1.53 billion in August 2023, an increase of 10.7% over the same period last year (the same below). Among them, the export of agricultural products to CEE reached RMB 820 million, with a decrease of 16.7%; the import of agricultural products from CEE reached RMB 710 million, with an increase of 77.4%.
The main features of agricultural product trade between China and CEE in August 2023 are as follows:
(I) E-cigarette cartridges (nicotine-containing), edible aquatic products and formulated animal feed were the main exported products.
In August 2023, China exported RMB 820 million of agricultural products to CEE, with a decrease of 16.7%, accounting for 1.3% of the gross value of exports to CEE from China in the same month. Among them, the nicotine-containing products used to make e-cigarette cartridges amounted to RMB 240 million, with an increase of 31%, edible aquatic products RMB 63.40 million, with a decrease of 12.8%, and formulated animal feed RMB 56.609 million, with an increase of 71.6%.
(II) Corn, oil cakes of sunflower seeds, and sunflower seeds were the main imported products.
In August 2023, China imported RMB 710 million of agricultural products from CEE, an increase of 77.4%, accounting for 4.3% of the gross value of imports from CEE to China in the same month. Among them, corn was RMB300 million, with no imports over the same period last year; oil cake of sunflower seeds was RMB 130 million, a decrease of 4.2%; and sunflower seed was RMB 110 million, an increase of 13.3 times.
(III) Bulgaria, Poland and Romania were the top three agricultural products trading partners.
In August 2023, China's imports and exports of agricultural products from and to Bulgaria, Poland and Romania amounted to RMB 600 million, RMB 410 million and RMB 140 million respectively, with an increase of 113.2%, a decrease of 0.6%, and a decrease of 57.6% respectively, accounting for 39%, 27% and 9.1% respectively of China's gross import-export value of agricultural products from and to CEE in the same month.
