Customs statistics show that the total value of bilateral trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEE) was RMB 489.27 billion in the first half of 2024, a year-on-year increase (the same below) of 6.2%. Among them, the value of exports to CEE reached RMB 381.84 billion, an increase of 6.1%; the value of imports from CEE reached RMB 107.43 billion, an increase of 6.6%.
The main features of bilateral trade between China and CEE in the first half of 2024 are as follows:
(I) Mechanical & electrical products and labor-intensive products were the main exported products.
In the first half of 2024, China exported RMB 262.52 billion of mechanical and electrical products to CEE, with an increase of 5.8%, accounting for 68.8% of the gross export value (the same below) from China to CEE over the same period. Among them, the value of electrical equipment & material reached RMB 28.03 billion, a decrease of 21.1%; the value of automatic data processing equipment and its parts and components reached RMB 26.54 billion, an increase of 17%. Over the same period, the export of labor-intensive products reached RMB 65.71 billion, with an increase of 12.9%, accounting for 17.2% of the gross export value from China to CEE. Among them, the value of textile and garment reached RMB 29.92 billion, an increase of 4.9%; the value of plastic products reached RMB 10.44 billion, an increase of 25.4%. In addition, the value of exported agricultural products reached RMB 4.59 billion, an increase of 4.7%, accounting for 1.2%; the value of exported foods reached RMB 2.37 billion, an increase of 18.1%.
(II) Mechanical & electrical products, metallic mineral ores, and copper materials were the main imported products.
In the first half of 2024, China imported RMB 74.92 billion of mechanical and electrical products from CEE, an increase of 6.9%, accounting for 69.7% of the gross import value (the same below) from CEE to China over the same period. Among them, the value of auto parts reached RMB 18.89 billion, an increase of 46.6%; the value of automobiles reached RMB 13.62 billion, a decrease of 28%. In the same period, the value of imported metal ore and ore sand reached RMB 8.15 billion, an increase of 12.3%, accounting for 7.6% of the gross value of imports from CEE to China; the value of imported unwrought copper and copper material reached RMB 4.65 billion, an increase of 49.7%, accounting for 4.3% of the gross value of imports from CEE to China. In addition, the value of imported agricultural products reached RMB 2.23 billion, a decrease of 30.9%, accounting for 2.1%; the value of imported foods reached RMB 1.16 billion, a decrease of 41.5%.
(III) Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary were the top three trading partners.
In the first half of 2024, China's imports from and exports to Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary were RMB 155.16 billion, RMB 78.17 billion, and RMB 54.99 billion respectively, with an increase of 7.6%, 8.8%, and 10.3% respectively, accounting for 31.7%, 16%, and 11.2% respectively of China's gross import-export value from and to CEE over the same period.
