Briefing on Bilateral Trade between China and CEECs in October 2022

According to Customs statistics, the total value of bilateral trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEECs)  was RMB71.51 billion in October 2022, with a year-on-year increase (similarly hereinafter) of 1.3%   including the value of exports to CEECs reached RMB56.79 billion with an increase of 1.7% and    the value of imports from CEECs reached RMB14.72 billion with decrease of 0.1%.


In the first ten months of 2022, the total value of bilateral trade between China and CEECs was RMB764.17 billion, an increase of 11.3%. Among them, the value of exports to CEECs reached RMB592.36 billion, an increase of 17.1%; the value of imports from CEECs reached RMB171.81 billion, a decrease of 4.9%.


The main features are as follows:


1. Mechanical and electrical products and labor-intensive products dominated the exports.


In October 2022, China exported RMB40.55 billion of mechanical and electrical products to CEECs, an increase of 0.9%, accounting for 71.4% of the total value of exports to CEECs from China in the same month (the same below). Among them, the value of electrical equipment and material reached RMB6.63 billion, an increase of 63.8%; the value of automatic data processing machines and parts thereof reached RMB4.69 billion, an increase of 1.8%. Over the same period, the export of labor-intensive products amounted to RMB8.4 billion, a decrease of 8.2%, accounting for 14.8%. Among them, the value of garments and clothing accessories reached RMB2.3 billion, a decrease of 17.4%; the value of textile yarn, fabrics and articles thereof reached RMB1.48 billion, a decrease of 13.1%. In addition, the export of agricultural products amounted to RMB700 million, an increase of 57.1%, accounting for 1.2%; the export of basic organic chemicals amounted to RMB550 million, an increase of 3.8%, and the export of food was RMB330 million, an increase of 14.6%.


2. Mechanical and electrical products, copper materials, and refined petroleum products dominated the imports.


In October 2022, China imported RMB10.88 billion of mechanical and electrical products from CEECs, an increase of 8.2%, accounting for 73.9% of the gross value of imports from CEECs to China in the same month (the same below). Among them, the value of passenger cars reached RMB3.08 billion, an increase of 80.6%; the value of auto parts and accessories  reached RMB2.03 billion, a decrease of 6.3%. Over the same period, the import of unwrought copper and copper materials amounted to RMB400 million, a decrease of 32.6%, accounting for 2.7%; and the import of refined petroleum products amounted to RMB360 million, an increase of 532.6 times, accounting for 2.4%. In addition, the import of agricultural products amounted to RMB210 million, a decrease of 16.6%, accounting for 1.5%; the import of food totaled RMB170 million, a decrease of 22.1%, accounting for 1.1%.


3. Poland, Czech and Hungary were the top three trading partners.


In October 2022, China's imports from and exports to Poland, Czech and Hungary amounted to RMB21.91 billion, RMB12.75 billion, and RMB8.15 billion respectively, a decrease of 9.6%, an increase of 13.8%, and a decrease of 1.5% respectively, accounting for 30.6%, 17.8%, and 11.4% respectively of China's gross import-export value from and to CEECs in the same month.
