According to Customs statistics, the total value of food trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEECs) was RMB670 million in January 2022, a year-on-year increase (similarity hereinafter) of 17.2%. Of these, food imported from CEECs reached RMB340 million, an increase of 34%; food exported to CEECs reached RMB330 million, an increase of 3.4%.
The main features are as follows:
1. Corn, dairy products, and sunflower seeds were the main imported products.
In January 2022, China imported RMB340 million of foods from CEECs, an increase of 34%, accounting for 2.1% of the gross value of imports from CEECs to China in the same month. Among them, the value of corn was RMB95.144 million, no import in the same period of last year; the value of dairy products was RMB77.745 million, down 38.5%; the value of sunflower seeds was RMB37.626 million, up 131.4%.
2. Aquatic products, vegetables, and alcohol were the main exported products.
In January 2022, China exported RMB330 million of foods to CEECs, an increase of 3.4%, accounting for 0.5% of the gross value of exports to CEECs from China in the same month. Of these, the value of edible aquatic products totaled RMB 83.557 million, up 3.9%; the value of vegetables and edible mushrooms amounted to RMB 30.017 million, up 35.7%; the value of alcohol and beverages reached RMB 25.857 million, up 24.5%.
3. Poland, Bulgaria and Greece were the top three food trading partners.
In January 2022, China's imports from and exports to Poland, Bulgaria, and Greece amounted to RMB220 million, RMB150 million, and RMB67.711 million respectively, with a decrease of 18.3%, an increase of 114.2%, and a decrease of 48.1% respectively. They respectively accounting for 32.4%, 22.5% and 10% of the gross value of foods imported from and exported to CEECs in the same month.
