Customs statistics show that the total value of agricultural product trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEE) was RMB 6.82 billion in the first half of 2024, a decrease of 10.3% over the same period last year (the same below). Among them, the value of agricultural products exported to CEE reached RMB 4.59 billion, an increase of 4.7%; the value of agricultural products imported from CEE reached RMB 2.23 billion, a decrease of 30.9%.
The main features of the agricultural products trade between China and CEE in the first half of 2024 are as follows:
(I) E-cigarette cartridges (nicotine-containing), edible aquatic products, vegetables and edible mushrooms were the main exported products.
In the first half of 2024, China exported RMB 4.59 billion of agricultural products to CEE, with an increase of 4.7%, accounting for 1.2% of the gross export value from China to CEE over the same period. Among them, the export of E-cigarette cartridges (nicotine-containing) reached RMB 1.01 billion, with a decrease of 21%; the export of edible aquatic products reached RMB 420 million, with an increase of 22.2%; the export of vegetables and edible mushrooms reached RMB 260 million, with an increase of 35.8%.
(II) Oil cake of sunflower seeds, dairy products, and feathers and downs were the main imported products.
In the first half of 2024, China imported RMB 2.23 billion of agricultural products from CEE, a decrease of 30.9%, accounting for 2.1% of the gross import value from CEE to China over the same period. Among them, the value of imported sunflower seed oil cake was RMB 470 million, a decrease of 48.1%; the value of imported dairy products was RMB 280 million, a decrease of 39.9%; and the value of imported feathers and downs was RMB 180 million, an increase of 68.1%.
(III) Poland, Bulgaria, and Romania were the top three agricultural product trade partners.
In the first half of 2024, China's imports and exports of agricultural products from and to Poland, Bulgaria and Romania were RMB 2.29 billion, RMB 1.22 billion, and RMB 820 million respectively, a decrease of 0.6%, a decrease of 48.6%, and an increase of 48.4% respectively, accounting for 33.5%, 17.8%, and 12% respectively of China's gross import-export value of agricultural products from and to CEE over the same period.
