Briefing on Bilateral Trade between China and CEECs in February 2022

According to Customs statistics, the total value of bilateral trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEECs) was RMB66.69 billion in February 2022, a year-on-year increase (similarly hereinafter) of 12.5%. Among them, the value of exports to CEECs accounted for RMB50.98 billion, an increase of 17.9%; The value of imports from CEE reached RMB15.71 billion, a decrease of 1.9%.


From January to February 2022, the total value of bilateral trade between China and CEECs was RMB143.96 billion, an increase of 13.6%. Among them, the value of exports to CEECs accounted for RMB112.1 billion, an increase of 20.1%; The value of imports from CEECs reached RMB31.86 billion, a decrease of 4.5%.


The main features are as follows:


1. Electro-mechanical and labor-intensive products dominated the exports.


In February 2022, China exported RMB36.03 billion of  electro-mechanical products to CEECs, an increase of 13.3%, accounting for 70.7% of the gross value of exports to CEECs from China (the same below) in the same month. Among them, the value of automatic data processing machines and parts thereof accounted for RMB4.87 billion, which increased by 20.2%; The value of electrical equipment accounted for RMB3.84 billion, which increased by 16.2%. Over the same period, the export of labor-intensive products reached RMB7.43 billion, an increase of 15.1%, accounting for 14.6% of the gross value of exports to CEECs from China. Among them, the value of garments and clothing accessories reached RMB2.05 billion, up 2.3%; The value of textile yarn, fabrics and articles thereof reached RMB1.63 billion, up 26.7%. The export of basic organic chemicals totaled RMB740 million, with an increase of 65.7%, accounting for 1.5% of the gross value of exports to CEECs from China. In addition, the export of agricultural products totaled RMB360 million, which increased by 25.8%; The export of food totaled RMB190 million, which decreased by 1.9%.


2. Electro-mechanical products, copper and metallic mineral ores dominated the imports.


In February 2022, China imported RMB11.26 billion of electro-mechanical products from CEECs, down 5.2%, accounting for 71.7% of the gross value of imports from CEECs to China (the same below) in the same month. Among them, the value of passenger cars amounted to RMB3.81 billion, which increased by 23.9%; The value of auto parts and accessories totaled RMB1.99 billion, which decreased by 28.8%. Over the same period, the import of unwrought copper and copper material reached RMB910 million, down 14.3%, accounting for 5.8% of the gross value of imports from CEECs to China; The import of metallic mineral ores amounted to RMB700 million, up 154.7%, accounting for 4.5% of the gross value of imports from CEECs to China. In addition, the import of agricultural products amounted to RMB190 million, a decrease of 31.8%, accounting for 1.2% of gross value of imports from CEECs to China; The import of food totaled RMB160 million, a decrease of 33.5%, accounting for 1% of gross value of imports from CEECs to China.


3. Poland, Czech and Hungary were the top three trading partners.


In February 2022, China's imports from and exports to Poland, Czech, and Hungary amounted to RMB20.53 billion, RMB9.58 billion, and RMB7.02 billion respectively, with an increase of 12%, a hold, and an decrease of 11.4%. They respectively accounting for 30.8%, 14.4% and 10.5% of China's gross import-export value from and to CEECs in the same month.
