Briefing on Food Trade between China and CEECs in January 2021

According to Customs statistics, in January 2021, the total value of food trade between China and Central and Eastern Europe countries (hereinafter referred to as CEECs) was RMB600 million, a decline of 41.5% over the same period last year (similarly hereinafter). Specifically, China's food exports registered RMB330 million, a decline of 29.4%, food imports reached RMB270 million, down 51.6%.


The main features are as follows:


1. The exports were mainly edible aquatic products, grains and vegetables.


China's food exports to CEECs in January 2021 totaled RMB330 million, down 29.4%, accounting for 0.6% of the total value of China's exports to CEECs that month. Among them, edible aquatic products reached RMB81.595 million, down 52.9%, grains registered RMB36.663 million, up 83.7%, vegetables and edible fungi totaled RMB23.96 million, down 35.7%.


2. The main imports included dairy products, liquors, beverages and hops.


In January 2021, China imported RMB270 million of food from CEECs, a decline of 51.6%, accounting for 1.5% of the total value of China’s imports from CEECs in that month. Among them, dairy products registered RMB130 million, up 84.9%, liquors and beverages registered RMB33.642 million, up 29.1%, hops reached RMB21.792 million, down 34.1%.


3. Poland, Bulgaria and Greece are the top three food trading partners.


In January 2021, China’s food trade value with Poland, Bulgaria and Greece were RMB270 million, RMB70 million and RMB50 million respectively, a decline of 6.3%, 62.9% and 53.1%, accounting for 44.8%, 11.8% and 7.6% of the total food trade value between China and CEECs in that month.
