Briefing on Bilateral Trade between China and CEECs in January 2022

According to Customs statistics, the total value of bilateral trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEECs) was RMB77.27 billion in January 2022, a year-on-year increase (similarly hereinafter) of 14.6%. Among them, the value of exports to CEECs accounted for RMB61.12 billion, an increase of 22%; The value of imports from CEECs accounted for RMB16.15 billion, a decrease of 6.8%.


The main features are as follows:


1. Electro-mechanical and labor-intensive products dominated the exports.


In January 2022, China exported RMB 40.64 billion of electro-mechanical products to CEECs, an increase of 12.8%, accounting for 66.5% of the gross value of exports to CEECs from China (the same below) in the same month. Among them, the value of electrical equipment accounted for RMB4.55 billion, up 16.9%; The value of automatic data processing machines and parts thereof accounted for RMB4.48 billion, down 10.9%. Over the same period, the export of labor-intensive products reached RMB11.87 billion, an increase of 38.1%, accounting for 19.4% of the gross export value from China to CEECs. Among them, the value of garments and clothing accessories accounted for RMB3.42 billion, up 40%; The value of fabrics and articles thereof accounted for RMB2.7 billion, up 55.5%. The export of basic organic chemicals totaled RMB750 million, with an increase of 28.9%, accounting for 1.2% of the gross export value from China to CEECs. In addition, the export of agricultural products totaled RMB550 million, which increased by 31%; Food exports amounted to RMB330 million, which increased by 3.4%.


2. Electromechanical products, copper, wood and wooden products dominated the imports.


In January 2022, China imported RMB10.96 billion of electro-mechanical products from CEECs, down 10.8%, accounting for 67.8% of the gross import value from CEECs to China (the same below) in the same month. Among them, the import value of auto parts and accessories totaled RMB2.96 billion, which decreased by 7.1%; The import value of electrical equipment totaled RMB1.76 billion, which decreased by 0.1%. Over the same period, the import of unwrought copper and copper material amounted to RMB800 million, up 13.6%, accounting for 5% of gross import value from CEE to China; The import of wood and wooden products reached RMB650 million, an increase of 6.8%, accounting for 4% of gross import value from CEE to China. In addition, the import of agricultural products amounted to RMB530 million, an increase of 53.8%, accounting for 3.3% of gross import value from CEECs to China; The import of food totaled RMB350 million, an increase of 34%, accounting for 2.1% of gross import value from CEECs to China.


3.  Poland, Czech and Hungary were the top three trading partners.


In January 2022, China's imports from and exports to Poland, Czech, and Hungary amounted to RMB23.87 billion, RMB13.07 billion, and RMB8.7 billion respectively, with an increase of 11.8%, 12%, and 2.3% respectively. They respectively accounting for 30.9%, 16.9% and 11.3% of China's gross import-export value from and to CEECs in the same month.
