Customs statistics show that the total value of food trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEE) was RMB 85.72 billion in November 2024, an increase of 11.8% compared to the same period last year (the same below). Among them, the value of exports to CEE was RMB 67.14 billion, an increase of 15.6%, and that of imports from CEE was RMB 18.58 billion, a decrease of 0.1%.
In the first 11 months of 2024, China's bilateral trade with CEE totaled RMB 923.86 billion, an increase of 7.9%. Among them, the value of exports to CEE was RMB 718.7 billion, an increase of 8.2%, and that of imports from CEE was RMB 205.16 billion, an increase of 6.8%.
The main features of bilateral trade between China and CEE in November 2024 are as follows:
(I) The primary exports consist of M&E products and labor-intensive products.
In November 2024, China exported RMB 45.23 billion of mechanical and electrical products to CEE, an increase of 14.2%, accounting for 67.4% of the gross value of exports from China to CEE in the same month. Among them, the value of electrical equipment was RMB 5.44 billion, an increase of 22%, and that of automatic data processing equipment and its parts and components was RMB 5.16 billion, an increase of 15.4%. In the same period, the value of exported labor-intensive products was RMB 10.99 billion, an increase of 12.3%, accounting for 16.4%. Among them, the value of textiles and garments was RMB 5.17 billion, an increase of 16.8%, and that of plastic products was RMB 1.67 billion, an increase of 2.5%. In addition, the value of exported agricultural products was RMB 1.05 billion, an increase of 15.3%, accounting for 1.6 % of the total, and that of exported food was RMB 540 million, an increase of 21.7%.
(II) The primary imports consist of M&E products, metallic mineral ores, and copper materials.
In November 2024, China imported RMB 13.79 billion of mechanical and electrical products from CEE, down 0.8%, accounting for 74.2% of the gross value of imports from CEE to China (the same below) in the same month. Among them, the value of auto parts was RMB 3.57 billion, with an increase of 47.9%, and that of automobiles was RMB 3.24 billion, with a decrease of 31.1%. In the same period, the value of imported metal ores and ore sands was RMB 1.21 billion, an increase of 196.5%, accounting for 6.5%, and that of unwrought copper and copper materials was RMB 940 million, a decrease of 3.8%, accounting for 5.1%. In addition, the value of imported agricultural products was RMB 290 million, a decrease of 38.5%, accounting for 1.5% of the total value of imports, and that of imported food was RMB 190 million, a decrease of 53%.
(III) Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary rank as China’s top three food trade partners.
In November 2024, China's imports from and exports to Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary amounted to RMB 25.54 billion, RMB 16 billion and RMB 10.21 billion respectively, an increase of 10.3%, 16.6% and 11.8% respectively, accounting for 29.8%, 18.7% and 11.9% of China's gross trade with CEE in the same month.
