Customs statistics show that the total value of food trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEE) was RMB 1.73 billion in Q1 2023, a year-on-year increase (the same below) of 18.4%, Among them, food exported to CEE accounted for RMB 960 million, an increase of 20.2%; Food imported from CEE reached RMB 770 million, an increase of 16.3%.
The main features of food trade between China and CEE in Q1 2023 are as follows:
(I) Edible aquatic products, canned products, vegetables and edible mushrooms were the main exported products.
In the first quarter of 2023, China's exports of food to CEE reached RMB 960 million, an increase of 20.2%, accounting for 0.5% of China's total exports to CEE during the same period. Among them, edible aquatic products were RMB 170 million, an increase of 12.4%; canned products were RMB 150 million, an increase of 223.7%; vegetables and edible mushrooms were RMB 97.578 million, an increase of 41.2%.
(II) Corn, dairy products, and sunflower seeds were the main imported products.
In the first quarter of 2023, China's imports of food from CEE reached RMB 770 million, an increase of 16.3%, accounting for 1.5% of China's total imports from CEE during the same period. Among them, corn reached RMB 240 million, up 156%; dairy products reached RMB 210 million, up 13%; sunflower seeds reached RMB 78.155 million, down 20.5%.
(III) Poland, Bulgaria, and Greece were the top three food trading partners.
In the first quarter of 2023, the value of China's food imported from and exported to Poland, Bulgaria and Greece reached RMB 680 billion, RMB 390 million, and RMB 180 million respectively, with an increase of 21.3%, 28.7% and 17.2%, accounting for 39.2%, 22.4% and 10.7% of the total value of China's food imported from and exported to CEE in the same period.
