Briefing on Bilateral Trade between China and CEECs in the First Quarter of 2022

According to Customs statistics, the total value of bilateral trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEECs) was RMB213.58 billion in the first quarter of 2022, with a year-on-year increase (similarly hereinafter) of 11.5%, including the value of exports to CEECs of RMB165.8 billion with an increase of 19.1% and the value of imports from CEECs of RMB47.78 billion with a decrease of 8.6%.


The main features are as follows:


1. Mechanical and electrical products and labor-intensive products dominated the exports.


In the first quarter of 2022, the value of China's mechanical and electrical products exported to CEECs reached RMB115.94 billion with an increase of 13.6%, accounting for 69.9% of the total value of China's exports to CEECs in the same period (the same below), including the value of automatic data processing machines and parts thereof of RMB14.19 billion with an increase of 0.1% and the value of electrical equipments of RMB12.73 billion with an increase of 15%. In the same period, the value of China's labor-intensive products exported to CEECs reached RMB26.21 billion with an increase of 28.7%, accounting for 15.8% of the total value of China's exports to CEECs in the same period, including the value of garments and clothing accessories of RMB6.99 billion with an increase of 27.6% and the value of textile yarn, fabrics and articles thereof of RMB6.02 billion with an increase of 41.9%. In addition, the value of China's agricultural products exported to CEECs reached RMB1.61 billion with an increase of 57.2% and the value of China's food exported to CEECs reached RMB870 million with an increase of 18.9%.


2. Mechanical and electrical products, copper and metal mines and ores dominated the imports.


In the first quarter of 2022, the value of China's mechanical and electrical products imported from CEECs reached RMB33.46 billion with a decrease of 10.9%, accounting for 70% of the total value of China's imports from CEECs in the same period (the same below), including the value of passenger cars of RMB8.15 billion with a decrease of 10.8% and the value of auto parts and accessories of RMB7.08 billion with a decrease of 19.1%. In the same period, the value of China's unwrought copper and copper materials imported from CEECs reached RMB2.53 billion with a decrease of 22.2% and the value of China's metal mines and ores imported from CEECs reached RMB2.02 billion with an increase of 54%. In addition, the value of China's agricultural products imported from CEECs reached RMB1.08 billion with an increase of 14.1% and the value of China's food imported from CEECs reached RMB710 million with a decrease of 3.4%.


3. Poland, Czech and Hungary were the top three trading partners.


In the first quarter of 2022, the value of China's imports from and exports to Poland, Czech and Hungary reached RMB66.76 billion, RMB35.02 billion and RMB23.59 billion respectively, with an increase of 13.1%, an increase of 4.1% and a decrease of 2.4%, accounting for 31.3%, 16.4% and 11% of the total value of China's imports from and exports to CEECs in the same period.
