Briefing on Agricultural Trade between China and CEECs in the First Half of 2022

According to Customs statistics, the total value of agricultural products between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEECs) was RMB6.05 billion in the first half of 2022, a year-on-year increase (similarly hereinafter) of 30.5%. Among them, the value of agricultural products exported to CEECs reached RMB3.84 billion, an increase of 72%; the value of agricultural products imported from CEECs reached RMB2.21 billion, a decrease of 7.9%.


The main features of the agricultural products trade between China and CEECs in the first half of 2022 are as follows:


1. Chemically modified oils and fats, electronic cigarette cartridges, aquatic food products were the main exported products.


In the first half of 2022, China exported RMB3.84 billion of agricultural products to CEECs, an increase of 72%, accounting for 1.1% of the gross export value from China to CEECs over the same period. Among them, the value of chemically modified oils and fats reached RMB540 million, an increase of 251.3%; the value of nicotine-containing electronic cigarette cartridges and similar products reached RMB490 million; aquatic food products reached RMB380 million, a decrease of 4.1%.


2. Dairy products, oil cakes of sunflower seeds, and corn were the main imported products.


In the first half of 2022, China imported RMB2.21 billion of agricultural products from CEECs, a decrease of 7.9%, accounting for 2.1% of the gross import value from CEECs to China over the same period. Among them, the value of dairy products reached RMB490 million, a decrease of 32.9%; the value of oil cakes of sunflower seeds reached RMB440 million, an increase of 65.5%; the value of corn reached RMB290 million, no import in the same period last year.


3. Poland, Bulgaria and Romania were the top three agricultural product trading partners.


In the first half of 2022, China's imports and exports of agricultural products from and to Poland, Bulgaria and Romania were RMB1.78 billion, RMB1.2 billion and RMB920 million respectively, an increase of 1.1%, 98.4% and 100.1% respectively, accounting for 29.5%, 19.9% and 15.2% of China's gross import-export value of agricultural products from and to CEECs over the same period.
