Customs statistics show that the total value of food trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEE) was RMB 1.01 billion in July 2023, an increase of 107.4% over the same period last year (the same below). Among them, food exported to CEE accounted for RMB 320 million, an increase of 6.4%; Food imported from CEE reached RMB 690 million, an increase of 275.5%.
The main features of food trade between China and CEE in July 2023 are as follows:
(I) Edible aquatic products, vegetables, edible mushrooms and meat were the main exported products.
In July 2023, China exported RMB 320 million of foods to CEE, an increase of 6.4%, accounting for 0.5% of the gross value of exports to CEE from China in the same month. Among them, the export of edible aquatic products was RMB 61.759 million, a decrease of 38.9%; the export of canned vegetables and edible mushrooms was RMB 33.365 million, an increase of 31.8%; the export of meat was RMB 32.769 million, an increase of 29.3%.
(II) Corn, dairy products, and sunflower seeds were the main imported products.
In July 2023, China imported RMB 690 million of foods from CEE, an increase of 275.5%, accounting for 3.9% of the gross import value from CEE to China in the same month. Among them, the import of corn was RMB 470 million, an increase of 16.3%; the import of dairy products were RMB 81.436 million, an increase of 11%; the import of sunflower seeds were RMB 43.717 million, an increase of 14.6 times.
(III) Bulgaria, Poland and Greece were the top three food trading partners.
In July 2023, China's food imports from and exports to Bulgaria, Poland and Greece amounted to RMB 590 million, RMB 210 million and RMB 58.823 million, an increase of 12.8 times, a decrease of 3.8%, and 6.4%, respectively, accounting for 59%, 21.1%, and 5.9% of the gross value of foods imported from and exported to CEE in the same month.
