Briefing on Bilateral Trade between China and CEECs in the First Three Quarters of 2022

According to Customs statistics, the total value of bilateral trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEECs) was RMB692.73 billion in the first three quarters of 2022, with a year-on-year increase (similarly hereinafter) of 12.4%, including the value of exports to CEECs reached RMB535.64 billion with an increase of 18.9% and the value of imports from CEECs reached RMB157.09 billion, a decrease of 5.3%.


The main features of bilateral trade between China and CEECs in the first three quarters of 2022 are as follows:


1. Mechanical and electrical products and labor-intensive products dominated the exports.


In the first three quarters of 2022, China exported RMB365.06 billion of mechanical and electrical products to CEECs, an increase of 14.9%, accounting for 68.2% of the gross export value (the same below) from China to CEECs in the same period. Among them, the value of electrical equipments   reached RMB48.47 billion, an increase of 44.2%; the value of automatic data processing machines and parts thereof reached RMB40.24 billion, an increase of 6.1%. Over the same period, the export of labor-intensive products amounted to RMB91.34 billion, an increase of 19.9%, accounting for 17.1%. Among them, the value of garments and clothing accessories reached RMB31.25 billion, an increase of 26.3%; the value of textile yarn, fabrics and articles thereof reached RMB16.61 billion, an increase of 15.8%. In addition, the export of basic organic chemicals was RMB6.02 billion, an increase of 28.5%; the export of agricultural products was RMB5.9 billion, an increase of 65.5%; the export of food was RMB2.66 billion, an increase of 10.8%.


2. Mechanical and electrical products, metal mines and ores,  copper products were the main imported products.


In the first three quarters of 2022, China imported RMB113.79 billion of mechanical and electrical products from CEECs, a decrease of 4.8%, accounting for 72.4% of the gross value of imports from CEECs to China (the same below) over the same period. Among them, the value of passenger cars reached RMB34.09 billion, an increase of 8.1%; The value of auto parts and accessories reached RMB21.72 billion, a decrease of 18.5%. Over the same period, the value of imported metal mines and ores reached RMB7.86 billion, an increase of 105.6%; the value of unwrought copper and copper products reached RMB5.79 billion, a decrease of 41.5%; the value of wood and its products reached RMB4.53 billion, a decrease of 7.2%. In addition, the value of China's agricultural products imported from CEECs reached RMB3.5 billion with an increase of 1% and the value of China's food imported from CEECs reached RMB2.05 billion with a decrease of 18%.


3. Poland, Czech and Hungary were the top three trading partners.


In the first three quarters of 2022, the value of China's imports from and exports to Poland, Czech and Hungary reached RMB218.13 billion, RMB115.32 billion and RMB76.5 billion respectively, with an increase of 10.3%, an increase of 15.9% and an increase of 0.5%, accounting for 31.5%, 16.6% and 11% of China's gross import-export value from and to CEECs over the same period, respectively.
