According to customs statistics, in January-February 2025, the total value of bilateral trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEE) was RMB 157.16 billion, an increase of 3.1% over the same period last year (the same below). Among them, the value of exports to CEE reached RMB 127.92 billion, an increase of 5.5%; the value of imports from CEE reached RMB 29.24 billion, a decrease of 6.2%.
The main features of bilateral trade between China and Central and Eastern Europe in January-February 2025 are as follows:
(I) M&E products and labor-intensive products were the main exported products.
In January-February 2025, China exported RMB 88.87 billion of M&E products to CEE, with an increase of 7.1%, accounting for 69.5% of the gross value of China's exports to CEE in the same period (the same below). Among them, the value of electrical equipment & material reached RMB 10.79 billion, an increase of 30.6%; the value of automatic data processing equipment and its parts and components reached RMB 7.6 billion, a decrease of 7.4%. During the same period, exports of labor-intensive products amounted to 20.16 billion yuan, a decrease of 8.3%, accounting for 15.8%. Among them, the value of textile and clothing reached RMB 9.16 billion, a decrease of 2.1%; the value of plastic products reached RMB 3.08 billion, a decrease of 11.1%. In addition, the export of agricultural products reached RMB 1.45 billion, an increase of 0.2%, accounting for 1.1%; the export of food reached RMB 830 million, an increase of 17.7%.
(II) The primary imports consist of M&E products, metallic mineral ores, and copper materials.
In January-February 2025, China imported RMB 20.41 billion of M&E products from CEE, a decrease of 5.8%, accounting for 69.8% of the gross import value from CEE in the same period (the same below). Among them, the value of auto parts reached RMB 4.95 billion, an increase of 9%; the value of automobiles reached RMB 4.41 billion, a decrease of 5.5%. Over the same period, the value of imported metal ores and ore sands reached RMB 2.29 billion, a decrease of 7.1%, accounting for 7.8%; the value of imported unwrought copper and copper materials reached RMB 1.51 billion, a decrease of 0.7%, accounting for 5.2%. In addition, the value of imported agricultural products reached RMB 440 million, a decrease of 48.4%, accounting for 1.5%; the value of imported food reached RMB 290 million, a decrease of 35.1%.
(III) Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary rank as China’s top three food trade partners.
In January-February 2025, China's import and export value with Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary reached RMB 50.67 billion, RMB 23.78 billion and RMB 18.03 billion respectively, up 3.1%, 0.4% and 11.1% respectively, accounting for 32.2%, 15.1% and 11.5% of China's total import and export value with CEE in the same month.
