Customs statistics show that the total value of bilateral trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEE) was RMB 703.51 billion in the first three quarters of 2023, a year-on-year increase (the same below) of 1.9%. Among them, the value of exports to CEE reached RMB 551.36 billion, an increase of 3.3%; the value of imports from CEE reached RMB 152.15 billion, a decrease of 3%.
The main features of bilateral trade between China and CEE in the first three quarters of 2023 are as follows:
(I) Mechanical & electrical products and labor-intensive products were the main exported products.
In the first three quarters of 2023, China exported RMB 379.37 billion of mechanical and electrical products to CEE, an increase of 4.2%, accounting for 68.8% of the gross export value (the same below) from China to CEE in the same period. Among them, the value of electrical equipment & material reached RMB 52.69 billion, an increase of 8.9%; the value of automatic data processing equipment and its parts and components reached RMB 36.36 billion, a decrease of 9.6%. Over the same period, the export of labor-intensive products reached RMB 91.38 billion, with an increase of 1.2%, accounting for 16.6% of the gross export value from China to CEE. Among them, the value of textile and garment reached RMB 44.96 billion, down 5.6%; the value of plastic products reached RMB 12.89 billion, up 13.4%. In addition, the export of steel was RMB 7.37 billion, with an increase of 33.6%, accounting for 1.3%; the export of agricultural products was RMB 6.98 billion, with an increase of 18.2%, accounting for 1.3%; the export of food was RMB 2.98 billion, with an increase of 11.9%.
(II) Mechanical & electrical products, metallic mineral ores, copper materials were the main imported products.
In the first three quarters of 2023, China imported RMB 105.5 billion of mechanical and electrical products from CEE, a decrease of 7.2%, accounting for 69.3% of the gross value of imports from CEE to China (the same below) over the same period. Among them, the value of passenger cars reached RMB 25.37 billion, with a decrease of 25.6%; the value of auto parts reached RMB 20.3 billion, with a decrease of 6.2%. In the same period, the value of imported metal ore and ore sand reached RMB 10.64 billion, an increase of 38.6%, accounting for 7%; the value of imported unwrought copper and copper material reached RMB 5.33 billion, a decrease of 8%, accounting for 3.5%. In addition, the import of agricultural products amounted to RMB 5.1 billion, an increase of 45.9%, accounting for 3.4%; the import of food totaled RMB 3.44 billion, an increase of 67.9%, accounting for 2.3%.
(III) Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary were the top three trading partners.
In the first three quarters of 2023, the value of China's imports from and exports to Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary reached RMB 222.87 billion, RMB 111.16 billion and RMB 76.19 billion respectively, with an increase of 2.7%, a decrease of 3.6% and a decrease of 0.7%, accounting for 31.7%, 15.8% and 10.8% of the total value of China's imports from and exports to CEE in the same period.
