Description of content: This standard applies to food additive Iron oxide red using ferrite as raw material, which on two steps of oxidation process and precipitation yields iron oxide. This standard specifies the technical requirements and determination methods for the food additive iron oxide red.

7.

Objective and rationale: [X] food safety, [ ] animal health, [ ] plant protection, [ ] protect humans from animal/plant pest or disease, [ ] protect territory from other damage from pests.

Does this proposed regulation conform to the relevant international standard?

[ ] Yes   [X] No

If no, describe, whenever possible, how and why it deviates from the international standard: It is not suitable to use the method provided in JECFA using solubility for identification. This standard employs the method described in USP and CP using sulfocyanic acid to identify ferric ion. Besides that, Content of iron oxide red in this standard is higher than in JECFA, in accordance with 2012/231/EC (E172).
