Briefing on Bilateral Trade between China and CEECs in August 2022

According to Customs statistics, the total value of bilateral trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEECs) was RMB89.02 billion in August 2022, with a year-on-year increase (similarly hereinafter) of 26.4% , including the value of exports to CEECs reached RMB69.64 billion with an increase of 30.4% and the value of imports from CEECs reached RMB19.38 billion with an increase of 13.8%.


In the first eight months of 2022, the total value of bilateral trade between China and CEECs was RMB609.58 billion, an increase of 13.2%. Among them, those exported to CEECs reached RMB470.13 billion, an increase of 19.7%; those imported from CEECs reached RMB139.45 billion, a decrease of 4.3%.


The main features are as follows:


1. Mechanical and electrical products and labor-intensive products dominated the exports.


In August 2022, China exported RMB48.39 billion of mechanical and electrical products to CEECs, an increase of 32.3%, accounting for 69.5% of the total value of exports to CEECs from China (the same below) in the same month. Among them, the value of electrical equipments reached RMB6.97 billion, an increase of 83.9%; the value of automatic data processing machines and parts thereof reached RMB4.92 billion, an increase of 41%. Over the same period, the export of labor-intensive products amounted to RMB11.17 billion, an increase of 9.8%, accounting for 16%. Among them, the value of garments and clothing accessories reached RMB4.1 billion, an increase of 11.7%; the value of textile yarn, fabrics and articles thereof reached RMB1.79 billion, an increase of 9.1%. In addition, the export of agricultural products amounted to RMB980 million, an increase of 129.2%, accounting for 1.4%; the export of steel amounted to RMB700 million, an increase of 66.9%; the export of food amounted to RMB360 million, an increase of 28.4%.


2. Mechanical and electrical products, metal mines and ores, wood and its products dominated the imports.


In August 2022, China imported RMB14.33 billion of mechanical and electrical products from CEECs, an increase of 19.9%, accounting for 73.9% of the gross value of imports from CEECs to China (the same below) in the same month. Among them, the value of passenger cars reached RMB4.91 billion, an increase of 64.5%; the value of auto parts and accessories reached RMB2.58 billion, an increase of 2.4%. During the same period, imports of metal mines and ores totaled RMB1.1 billion, an increase of 314.6%, accounting for 5.7%; imports of wood and its products totaled RMB500 million, a decrease of 29.4%, accounting for 2.6%. In addition, the import of agricultural products amounted to RMB400 million, an increase of 4.3%, accounting for 2.1%; the import of food totaled RMB210 million, an increase of 1.4%, accounting for 1.1%.


3. Poland, Czech and Hungary were the top three trading partners.


In August 2022, China's imports from and exports to Poland, Czech and Hungary amounted to RMB27.7 billion, RMB14.53 billion, and RMB9.68 billion respectively, with an increase of 18.8%, 42.7%, and 9.9% respectively, accounting for 31.1%, 16.3% and 10.9% respectively of China's gross import-export value from and to CEECs in the same month.
