Customs statistics show that the total value of the agricultural product trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEE) was RMB 14.42 billion in 2024, with a decrease of 12.6% over 2023 (the same below). Among them, the value of agricultural products exported to CEEC reached RMB 10.19 billion, an increase of 5%; the value of agricultural products imported from CEEC reached RMB 4.23 billion, with a decrease of 37.6%.
The main features of the agricultural product trade between China and CEE in 2024 are as follows:
(I) E-cigarette cartridges (nicotine-containing), edible aquatic products, vegetables and edible mushrooms were the main exported products.
In 2024, China exported RMB 10.19 billion of agricultural products to CEEC, with an increase of 5%, accounting for 1.3% of the gross export value from China to CEEC over the same period. Among them, the export of E-cigarette cartridges (nicotine-containing) reached RMB 2.31 billion, with a decrease of 20%; the export of edible aquatic products reached RMB 1.01 billion, with an increase of 31.3%; the export of vegetables and edible mushrooms reached RMB 550 million, with an increase of 19.5%.
(II) Oil cake of sunflower seeds, dairy products, and feathers and downs were the main imported products.
In 2024, China imported RMB 4.23 billion of agricultural products from CEEC, with a decrease of 37.6%, accounting for 1.9% of the gross import value from CEEC to China over the same period. Among them, the value of imported sunflower seed oil cake was RMB 720 million, a decrease of 58.7%; the value of imported dairy products was RMB 620 million, a decrease of 30%; and the value of imported feathers and downs was RMB 490 million, an increase of 180.9%.
(III) Poland, Bulgaria, and Romania were the top three agricultural product trade partners.
In 2024, China's imports from and exports to Poland, Bulgaria and Romania will be RMB 5.14 billion, RMB 2.16 billion and RMB 1.68 billion respectively, with an increase of 2.7%, a decrease of 57.5% and an increase of 30.8% respectively, accounting for 35.7%, 15% and 11.6% of the gross value of agricultural products imported from and exported to CEE by China in the same period.
