An Overview of Agricultural Product Trade between China and Central and Eastern European Countries in February 2024

Customs statistics show that the total value of agricultural product trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEE) was RMB 1.1 billion in February 2024, an increase of 21.1% over the same period last year (the same below). Among them, the value of agricultural products exported to CEE reached RMB 620 million, an increase of 50.3%; the value of agricultural products imported from CEE reached RMB 480 million, a decrease of 3.5%.


The main features of agricultural product trade between China and CEE in February 2024 are as follows:


(I) E-cigarette cartridges (nicotine-containing), chemically modified grease, and edible aquatic products were the main exported products.


In February 2024, China exported RMB 620 million of agricultural products to CEE, an increase of 50.3%, accounting for 1.2% of the gross value of exports to CEE from China in the same month. Among them, the value of E-cigarette cartridges (nicotine-containing) products reached RMB 12 billion, an increase of 25.5%; the value of chemically modified reached RMB 98.844 million, an increase of 223.9 times; the value of edible aquatic products reached RMB 46.163 million, an increase of 56%.


(II) Oil cake of sunflower seeds, corn and dairy products were the main imported products.


In February 2024, China imported RMB 480 million of agricultural products from CEE, a decrease of 3.5%, accounting for 3.2% of the gross value of imports from CEE to China in the same month. Among them, the value of oil cake of sunflower seeds reached RMB 13 billion, an increase of 7.7%; the value of corn reached RMB 80.311 million, a decrease of 56.4%; the value of dairy products reached RMB 66.738 million, an increase of 2.9%.


(III) Poland, Bulgaria and Romania were the top three agricultural product trade partners.


In February 2024, China's imports and exports of agricultural products from and to Poland, Bulgaria and Romania were RMB 320 million, RMB 300 million and RMB 180 million respectively, an increase of 27.6%, a decrease of 19.7%, and an increase of 257.2% respectively, accounting for 29.5%, 27.1% and 16.8% of China's gross import-export value of agricultural products from and to CEE over the same period, respectively.
